And so, yesterday's concert at VCH marked the 30th Prelude and the 8th Prelude I've been to!
Prelude 23, my first, way back in 2003, was when I started falling hard and fast for TJBand. I remember standing along the sides just to watch their stageband! And laughing so hard! :) And the awesomeness that was Celebration when the Timpani (Derrick no?) and the gong filled the entire School Hall.
Prelude 24, the best one in my opinion. Best band, best songs (Rhapsodia, Les Mis etc, and Abba Gold for encore!), best STAGEBAND! Every thing that happened was really hilarious! I really really loved that most :)
Prelude 25 was our stageband :)
Prelude 26, hmmmm, reminded by Lols yesterday... New World Symphony.............. (*faints! haha!)
Prelude 27, we played as alumni!
Prelude 28, hmm can't quite recall.
All I know is one of these concerts was such remedy for the heart and ears after what is the to me the horrors of NTU band. That Lin Sheng sound :) So good! I never wanted it to end.
Prelude 29 is the worst one I've ever been to and hope never to attend such as one again. The ensembles. Oh my. The horror. Worst still, this coming just after SYF and the controversy.
The constant among this, is, that stageband has always been good :) In the end, it always works out :)
Yesterday's concert was a good one. I felt the band had THAT Lin Sheng sound. ALthough too unpolished for a Prelude? Stageband was goooooood! Laughed tons! :) I liked the flute ensemble and the clarinet one too :) At least they didn't make me wanna get out of the concert hall asap.
The encore was this piece written by this double bass-ist, in tribute to TJ Alumni, conducted by Lin Sheng. It started with a trumpet solo of the opening of TJ school song! And all of a sudden, it was The Chosen, OUR SYF piece. It was so sudden, and really, I haven't heard it for ages! THen, merging into Hymn to the sun, the chorus part where the juniors around us sang, and ended with the ending of Extreme Makeover, before moving on to the whole band playing the school song, a different version from the recorded one. I think what touched me most was, it all being merged together and starting and ending with the school song. TJBand :)
Usually alumni sits in the balcony, and this time there were a few rows reserved for us! So everyone was together, and that last song received a standing ovation from the entire alumni. The only times I cheered and clapped so hard was for Lin Sheng, and for that tribute. After which, our guys started the TJ cheer :)
The row behind us were the juniors that just graduated I think. And boy were they making soooo much noise. Firstly, screaming so loudly, high pitched too. Secondly, shouting so much. Thirdly, talking so much. For me to complain about screaming is really something because mind you, I come from TKGS! We should be immune to such things! Hehe. Even Hongyu sitting beside me (2 years younger batch) and friends were a little annoyed over those shrieks. Makes me wonder, generation gap? But I don't remember shrieking at all back then! I think, we grew up hehe :)
It's so good to see all the alumni, and my batchmates again. Like Lols pointed out, they should've included Celebration. Because, it was that batch, to me, it was the '86 batch, that made alumni all the more stronger, and all the more respected by the main band. Some things have changed over the years. No more school song? And as a sec sch kid I loved the spontaniety of TJ Band, and all the crappiness and nonsense which showed through during concerts. Like how after it's over they'll just strike up some nonsense, be it some song everybody knows, or part of the favourite light pieces played for concert. Although we've all kinda moved on, I'll always remember Lin Sheng and all the band times. It's been too big a part of my life for me to forget :)
At the reception area,

Oh, the Emcees were such a "joke". I bet they've never been to a band concert, or any other concert for that matter, before. Everybody was about to @!@#$%% them!
I wish Jiwen was there to see it though :) I would've liked to share, what was so impt in my life then..
After the concert, outside was having YOG opening rehearsal or something. There were these burning fire pots thingy all over the place! Everybody was complaining about pollution, and boy, was the whole place SO HOT! It made the already very humid Singapore EVEN MORE HUMID. Boiling cauldron.

And at 10pm, I was already soooo tired and about to KO, I wished I was in bed.
So this morning, I refused to set my alarm. Time to rest and recover. Sneeze sneeze sneeze. FLU BE GONE!
I miss Jiwen. I have so many things I wanna tell him about! THings which are impt to me and have been on my mind. Emailing isn't quite the same, and Skype is an asshole :(
But let's shake those pompoms! It's racing time! Tour of Japan! Go GO GO! :)

Now, what is Mr Incredibles doing down there? Hehe
