Some Things Never Change

It's the second TKGSSB concert I've been to since I can remember! The last being the one on 28 Dec 08 at VCH. This time, Esplanade once again!
It was a trip down nostalgia again. Sat with xy, hk and jw. To see the little things in their 10-piece uniform. (Yes, I was just telling Jiwen how I was wondering if they're still wearing our uniforms and who took my instrument when hk said the same! hehehe) The banners we had to take care of (when you sit in the first row see). The ever luscious 1sts which made me um-chio with pride. It's funny how they still hold their clarinets pretty high. And the trumpets are still the way they are. Even after say 9 years!
I really really really really loved the luscious 1sts. Some things don't change and I'm really glad about that. It's so fun to just have two ppl in 1sts. And when you play together always, it's really something when chemistry works the best wonders and high notes are IN TUNE. I miss those days.
I was a little disappointed with the repertoire though. It seemed a little too........ young? Like in our days we played things like Peterloo or say Merry Widow.. And considering this year there's no SYF, shouldn't they have more time? Oh the funniest part was they had ensembles and the clarinets played Air on G string. (I think that's the title?) Which is EXACTLY the nightmare we went through last time. I still clearly remember having to go into the bandroom one group at the time to "face the music". *Gulp.
I'm really so appreciative that Jiwen was willing to come along! I hope you enjoyed yourself! I'd really really like him to listen to the jap bands if they come, or Kasetsart Uni, and most of all, TJ's Prelude. (Although sometimes the standard might not always be there!) Sadly, VCH will be closed for renovations, and well, it'll never be the same again! :(
TKGSSB is like my first love. Such a rich history. So many things we went through. That's where I learnt SO much (from the seniors who're the bEST BAND), established a very good background in band, being shaped in my most influential growing up years, learning about friendship and respect. It feels sooo long ago. But TJ band, IS love. Still is. And will most likely remain that way.
After the concert, followed the others down to find Ms Sia. Some things, just never change. Including that.... RUN feeling. Met all the seniors there. TK TJ ones! Like Emily, Ms Sim, Yanru..... And it was on that day, I surprisingly found out, Ms Sia remembers me as the one who transferred from oboe to clarinet and everybody cried. Oh my.......... I really NEVER knew I was remembered for tHAT! But she only remembered my name with Ms Chew's help! It was pretty cool to see all the old old old seniors. Like Ruoting and her friend who always came back together back in our days of having rehearsals in the what's-the-name-again room. Wait, what is it! Schubert Room is the the smaller one no? And Beethoven Room is 4th floor. Vivaldi is the small one. Yanacek also. So what is our combine room on the 3rd floor called again anyone?
Clarinet section area, our sectionals area on the 4th floor, blue and white, the sounds of "COMBINE". Pg 7 no. 3? Cheering for TKGSS and watching them rehearse. Keeping the stands, taking tuners n metronomes. Having combine. Playing your instrument. THE BLUE CAFE! Parkway parade and scoopz ice cream and ban mian. All the crapping around with our permanent jokers mo and neem! Laughing. I've NEVER laughed so hard during those times. It's the laugh-till-it-really-hurts kinda thing.
I REALLY miss all the jokes and times we shared. Through good and bad. Cryings and scoldings and combine and testing and projection exercise and Hamlet-ing and PT in the morning and our rainy outdoor Hamlet rehearsals and singing Tsubasa and pinning on our caps for each other and stockings and neems stocking colour (heheh) and bus rides and not forgetting "Good afternoon Ma'am"s.
I enjoyed myself alot at the concert. Not because of their playing. (I was way more impressed the previous concert!) But because of the company. I must say it was really good to see xy and hk again. Although it's only like just the tip of the iceburg of how our days back then were :)
Oh, and I bet TKGS concert is the only time the Esplanade can be filled with such screamings. Ouch. So much for Moribus Modestus, Demure and Resolute. Right.
